DANVERS- Eleanor Josephine Soucy passed away on October 27 2021. Eleanor was born in Salem to Joseph and Helen Dunajski (Odachowski) on Aug., 28, 1935. She was a graduate of St. James Grammar School and Salem Vocational High School. Eleanor met her husband, Frank, at a record hop, they married at the Polish Church in Peabody. Frank and Eleanor built a life together in Danvers for over 50 years upon moving the family from Salem in 1968. In the 70’s, 3 of the 4 children settled on the West Coast. Dad enjoyed planning a different route each year and their travels brought them to Alaska, California, Seattle and Hawaii. It was a yearly adventure and they traveled by train, car or plane. They were always in awe and impressed by this beautiful country. Eleanor drove a school bus for the City of Peabody. Upon retiring from the City of Peabody, Eleanor’s life was further enriched with volunteer work. She joined the Garden Club in Salem and was honored to serve as their president. Eleanor took the lead in making life better for many senior women. She was a longtime supporter of the Women’s Friend Society and Emmerton House in Salem. In her capacity as president of the board at the Brookhouse Home, she took the lead to renovate the building and improve the services and programs for the elderly women it served. Eleanor’ dedication, energy and personal commitment made a profound impact on the Brookhouse organization’s rebirth and the wellbeing of each woman served by it. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband and best friend, Frank, in 2018, by her son, Phil, in 2016, and her son David in 2017. She leaves her son, Frank Soucy Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Danvers, her daughter, Deborah Burgy, of Washington, daughter-in-law, Jennifer Soucy, of California; six grandchildren, Gus Soucy and his wife, Victoria, of California and Stephanie McGillicuddy and her husband, Cody, of Texas, Frank Soucy III of Texas and Joseph Soucy of Danvers, Aaron Burgy and his wife, Jennifer, Zachary Burgy and his wife, Elizabeth, of Washington; great grandchildren, Alexa, Jackson and Benjamin Francis of Washington, as well as a sister-in-law, Claire Gauthier, of Salem, a dear cousin, Teddy Dunajski, of Peabody as well as nieces and nephews. Eleanor was a friend of Bill W and leaves behind many friends. Her graveside service will be held at 10AM on Monday, November 1, 2021 in Cedar Grove Cemetery, 100 Cedar Grove Ave., Peabody. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Brookhouse, 180 Derby Street, Salem, MA 01970.
