Born in Danvers, MA, on February 4, 1927, she was the daughter of Sigurd Baker, a leather worker who immigrated from Norway and Katherine A. Malia Baker. In her youth, she enjoyed figure skating at the Mill Pond, in Danvers. She began her working career in 1943 at Sylvania in Danvers, where she and many of her high school classmates worked after school supporting the World War II war effort making transistor parts for submarines. She was a member of the 1944 Holten High womens Basketball team. She also was the class secretary of the graduating class of 1945. Upon her high school graduation from Holten High School in 1945 she became a civilian employee of the United States Department of the Navy in Boston where she received a commendation from the Admiral of the First Naval District. In 1948 she transferred to the Veterans Administration at 17 Court St. Boston where she assisted in the administration of the pensions of disabled veterans. She left the work force in 1950 to start her family. She and her husband of 45 years had two daughters, Kristine and Karlene. She returned to work full time in 1962 to the Boston St. Sylvania plant in Salem. Upon her retirement in 1989 she was the Managing Editor of Sylvanias 27 company newspapers. After her retirement she traveled extensively. She remained affectionately and actively involved in the lives of her daughters, childhood friends and classmates, nieces and nephews and her grand nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed her enthusiastic lifelong following of the Boston Red Sox , New England Patriots and Danvers High School. She will be deeply missed by family and friends and is survived by her daughter Karlene J. Zuk of Danvers and her grandson, John P. Morfis of Danvers as well as her beloved sister in-laws Stacia Pelletier of Danvers and Laura Pope of Pompano Beach, FL, her nieces Marilyn Nugent and her husband John of Villanova, PA and Dorothy Gibney of Peabody and nephews, Peter Zuk of Danvers, Norman Zuk and his wife Nancy of Danvers, Gregory Zuk of North Miami, Florida, Michael Zuk and his wife Janelle of North Hampton, NH, Jason Pelletier and his wife Carol of Rowley and Parris Pelletier and his wife Nanci Lee of Danvers, and grand nephews Peter D. and Andrew Zuk and his fiancée Beth Demers and grand nieces Elizabeth and Jolene Zuk, Sydney and Courtney Pelletier and David and Michelle and Richard Morin. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her niece Nancy Morin and her daughter Kristine. Her
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9AM in St. Mary of the
Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation
Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours
are Friday from 4-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28
Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations in Senas
